Liz's Learning
About
I am currently a student at University of North Georgia. I am pursuing a degree in Biology with a pre-med track. I hope to go to graduate school to pursue a career in genetic counseling. I have 60+ hours under my belt.
I recently had hip surgery that has made me start looking at tutoring kids. Beforehand, I worked in the veterinary field for 5 years.
I am part of the Pi Kappa Delta Honors Society at UNG. It is a speech and debate honors society. I am currently the Georgia Intercollegiate State Champion. Working with speech and debate has honed my communication skills, patience, and research skills. I started coaching other teammates which has shown me that I should pursue tutoring in various subjects.
I really enjoy that moment when you see a spark in your student's eye. When the student starts to understand the material then the material goes past understanding to enjoyment.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to make sure of the levels they are on by looking at their notes, past quizzes and tests, and learn about their ideal learning style. Not only do I help with their general learning process, but I also help their study skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have an Associates in Biology from the University of North Georgia and currenly am close to getting my Bachelor's of Science.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing depends on total number of hours, travel distance, and course being tutored in.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always helped out with my classmates. In my Math 4 class, my teacher realized that having me sit in class, take notes, and generally be a normal student was not challenging me enough. He encouraged me to assist him and student teach. I also do coaching of my fellow teammates on UNG's speech and debate club. I believe in constructive criticism. Make sure students know what they are doing right.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all ages from helping at my church's Vacation Bible School and children's ministry to college classmates.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am super fond of is Autumn in the Mountains. It is a speech tournament I have participated in three times now. UNG brought home 1st place in small school entry sweepstakes, which is a big deal. I may have won 6th place overrall, but we couldn't have won that award with just myself. My teammates did so much and I loved helping them.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that they have shown success in themselves. If the teacher is not confident, then they will not be assertive and help you be confident in your studies.
