About

I have been a tutor at Point University for 3 years and I loved every second of it! Getting students to not only succeed in class but to understand the concepts is my personal goal, and I take multiple angles to make sure I'm helping every individual to meet their needs. I understand tutoring may seem daunting, but I like to make sure my sessions are helpful and fun; something that you should forward to, not dread.

A student's progress and independent thought process. Throughout my sessions, I constantly give pointers as to how I think through a problem, which is where I believe the magic happens. Explaining how a concept works or how to solve a problem is one thing, but walking a beginner through an expert's mindset is more powerful and effective in the long-term, which is what I always strive for.

Frequently asked questions

Always start with a general conversation to get to know their goals, or what class they are struggling in. A new student should be doing most of the talking at first, just so I can get to know them. This helps me design the tutoring sessions for best results and how I can help them feel more comfortable during the sessions. A comfortable student will be able to learn better, and will look forward to another session. It's a win-win for the both of us!

I have a B.S in Biology, just covers a large scope of topics. Throughout my years of tutoring, I have done much more than math, such as general chemistry, organic chemistry, and, as much as math, physics. I aced these classes in college and have experience tutoring them.

I have no standard pricing, just talk to me and we will sort out a price that works well with you!

Before officially being hired on as a tutor, classmates would come up to me in the library asking specific questions regarding the classes we all were in at the same time. This grew from a couple students to me organizing study sessions with 7-8 people, where I would learn and perfect the material ahead of time so I can reteach it in a friendly, more helpful manner. After a month of doing this, a friend of mine suggested that I get hired on by the school so I can at least get paid for what I was doing.

All sorts, from all backgrounds. At Point, we had students that came from strong and weak academic high schools, which meant various starting points for me to work with. Also, plenty of my regular students were foreign students that came to Point for athletics.

In my last year, I had one student who struggled with math, but was tenacious about getting better. He came in every week for tutoring for almost a whole semester, and we spent alot of time working out problems during his finals week. A couple of weeks later he sent an email to my department head thanking them for all the tutoring I had provided; he passed the class, strongly at that!

Talk to them and see how you interact. Someone you get along better with is innately going to help you more because you'll be enjoying yourself during the session.
