Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would talk with the student and attempt to analyze what or why is giving the student issues with mathematics. After that, I provide the student with a sample set of questions and make a determination of where the student may be having issues and then proceed from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Mathematics is a subject that I earned only "A's" throughout school. I took math courses until my sophomore year in college. I enjoy math and utilize it daily in my work and life.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
No, I do not have a standard pricing system in place. This will be my initial attempt at professional tutoring. Pricing will be negotiable as begin this part of my life.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching on my jobs as the trainer for new hires. As I have progressed through my work life and gained promotions, training has become more instrumental in assisting new hires get acclimated to the work environment. Recently, I taught a beginner's golf instruction afterschool clinic for elementary school students at my children's school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with elementary age students and some high school and college age students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
During the afternoon golf clinic I taught at my children's school, I had a kindergarten student who really wanted to have an activity she could share with her dad. Her name is Chloe. She has two older siblings who had their own activities to share with their father so she chose golf as her personal choice. She began the clinic not knowing anything about the sport. After a few weeks of instruction, Chloe went from not knowing anything about the sport to becoming as knowledgeable about golf as a kindergartener could become. Her mother informed me that she asked for her own equipment and would go outside and practice striking and putting golf balls. To know that I had left such an impression on such a young person, and being a novice myself, I was very delighted.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
Find a tutor who understands that not all students learn the same way. The tutor needs to understand that math should be fun and become a part of your daily life and it takes practice and repetition.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
What were your grades in math as a subject? Did you enjoy the subject growing up? Do you feel you use this subject today? Why do you think you are a good person to be tutoring in this subject?
