About

Hello!

I have been working with learners tutoring and teaching for over twenty years.

I think the most unique aspect of my service is that it is Brain-Based. I use how the brain works to best utilize different strategies to build academic success. I also have taught a vast range of ages, from preschool to college.

My service is personalized. I tailor the learner's strategies based upon what best fits each learner's interests, best learning style, and what works best for that individual.

I try to make learning enjoyable. While there is no substitute for hard work, I think the most successful students are those who work hard and find strategies that make learning seem like it's not a chore.

I am currently offering online only sessions - whatever platform works best for you - Googlemeet, Zoom, Skype, etc.

I am available between sessions for quick questions, feedback, and/or suggestions at no additional charge.

Helping others each their goals is very rewarding. Knowledge is power. When I help someone learn something new or how to learn more efficiently or stronger, it helps that person realize more of that individual's own power, and that is intensely enjoyable to me!

Ms. Peterson helped my son go from hating reading and feeling like a failure to wanting to take a book with him wherever we go and feeling like a real reader.

    Frequently asked questions

My typical process for working with a new student is to get to know the student a bit and help the student feel comfortable and safe in his/her learning. There are three elements to the next step in beginning a tutor-learner relationship, in my opinion: Learning how a student likes to learn, how he/she learns best, and learning his/her strengths and areas needing strengthening. The next step is to get busy! Now that we know one another a bit, know what may work or not, and know what area(s) need work, we make a plan and put it into action.
