About

I have been an educator for 20 years. I have both a bachelor's and master's degree in the education field. I am certified to teach the Wilson Reading Program. I also have experience in teaching using the methods of Orton -Gillingham. During my last 5 years in education I have successfully worked with students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and autism-helping them to develop into fluent readers and writers.

As a teacher/tutor I love helping students reach their full potential. I enjoy watching students "get it" and begin to build self confidence in their academic growth.

Mrs. Hawkins is truly a master of her craft. In just two short weeks, my entering 1st grader is much more confident in her writing and spelling. Mrs. Hawkins made the sessions fun and engaging. We would definitely do this again.

    Frequently asked questions

I will speak with the student or parent to understand the need. If necessary, I may do baseline testing to determine where to begin or to identify gaps in learning.

I have 20 years of experience teaching students of varying ages to read and write. I am trained in teaching both the Wilson Structured Literacy Reading Program and Orton-Gillingham. .

Wilson or Orton Gillingham tutoring is $50 hour. For best results I recommend 2-3 sessions per week. For homework help or writing only, I charge $40 an hour.

I became a teacher because of my desire to help students succeed. I love to see children thriving academically. I work hard to make learning fun for students!

I have worked with a wide range of students. I am certified to teach gifted students. I was a co-taught teacher for 3 years where I taught students with a variety of learning difficulties, ADHD, and autism. I currently teach students with dyslexia and dysgraphia.
I am so proud of one student that I have been working with for a year and a half using the Wilson Structured Literacy Program. She came to me as a 6th grader who was reading and comprehending on a 2nd grade level. In just a little over a year she has become an avid reader! She is now reading at a 5th grade level. She grew 3 grade levels In reading, but more importantly her self esteem has skyrocketed!
Find someone that you feel comfortable with first! It doesn’t matter their level of expertise if you don’t feel comfortable working with them. Also, make sure you choose someone who provides measurable data to show where you started and progress along the way.
What is your biggest struggle and what learning outcomes do you hope to achieve during your tutoring sessions.
