About

I have homeschooled my own family and they are successful Nurses and IT professionals. I have tutored all levels of education.

I obtained a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Masters of Computer Information Systems, and am certified to teach Mathematics at the College level. I have taught College level Math for 18 years.

I enjoy the Aha! moment when the student sees that Math can be fun and easy. I am a teacher that focuses on practical examples rather than theoretial or abstact problems.

Mr. Preston took my Emily from a barely failing student to a confident
A student. He did this with patience and showing multiple ways of solving a problem. He teaches by leading the student to a solution on their own by developing critical thinking skills and building confidence.

Rick is a great tutor! He’s very easy to get along with and I feel comfortable working with and learning from him. I had zero understanding before meeting with him and math does take time to understand but he makes it much easier and I definitely feel like I’m learning from him. Wish I had found him sooner.

    Frequently asked questions

A student should be prepared  with homework or examples of difficult problems. An evaluation of key terms would follow to solve the problem. An example of a similar problem would be worked on and the actual problem addressed by the student.

I have been a Manufacturing Engineer for forty years, training people in procedures and processes. Classes in Mathematics and Software develpment have been led by me.

I prefer to explain using real world problems rather than thoery. Math should be practical.
