About
Teaching has been integral to my jobs as an Engineer for NASA with the space shuttle. I have mentored Technicians and Engineers in techniques and algorithms to make their job more successful.
I celebrate your successes and efforts to learn difficult subjects. I am an Electrical Engineer who teaches practicle ideas not theory.
Sometimes the tutoring goes beyond the subject. My favorite tutoring lasted ony ten minutes. I discovered that the young man was hiding a blindness in his left eye. I had him share this problem with his parents and they scheduled surgery to repair a torn retina. He went from F's to A's by my paying attention to the student, not just teaching a subject.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I attempt to determine the skill level of the student. I treat everyone as an individual and not a cookie cutter teaching style. I am known to explain a concept in multiple ways using words, manipulatives, games, and puzzles to enhance the learning.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, A Masters Degree in Computer Information Systems, and many credit hors at PHD Math. I did not pursue a PHD even though I had straight A's. I dislike Math as a Philosophy and prefer a hands on Math approach.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 per hour for most tutoring. If I can use Zoom the price is dropped to $20 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been a volunteer tutor for many years and was hired as an Adjunct Professor where I taught for eighteen years. I was not hired because I was a brilliant teacher but because I demonstrated I was being a caring person.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from the grade three level to PHD candidates. I can teach multiple subjects and am not limited to just Mathematics.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In working with a nine year old boy he had failed third grade and third grade summer school. He was promoted to fourth grade despite his lack of achievement. His mid semester grades were published and He had achieved two B's and five A's. You never know what excites the learning process and the Aha moment is a glorious event.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
Try to find one nearby. The tutor should also be willing to take telephone calls for a confusing problem at no charge.
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
The Student needs to read through the chapter when attempting the homework. If the chapter is confusing a Tutor is needed.
