Elementary Math Tutoring
About
I have a B.S. in Elementary Education from Florida State University and hold a Professional Certificate to teach all elementary subjects. I am also ESOL and Reading endorsed. I currently work at Deer Point Elementary School teaching 5th grade Math and Science, but I specialize in tutoring all elementary grades of math (K-5). I can also work with students to prepare them for upcoming state assessments by providing them with a personalized study program that can increase their scores on high-stakes assessments.
I have always had a passion for learning and expanding my knowledge. One of my favorite aspects of teaching is catching the "lightbulb moment" when a student who has been struggling suddenly reaches a level of understanding that just makes everything come together for them. Suddenly, they just get it. That small moment has the potential to completely transform the educational experience for a student who might have been on the fast track to shutting down. It allows them to bloom and reach higher levels of achievement because their self-confidence has been boosting. That moment is my Why.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I conduct a pre-assessment to determine the student's current needs and abilities, as wlel as talking with the student to ascertain their interests and learning preferences. Then I plan personalized lessons with hands-on manipulatives and plenty of reinforcement to help the student master the concepts they are struggling with. Finally, I conduct a post-assessment to determine if there are additional needs to be met.
