For the past 17 years, I worked in a quality control capacity for some of the nation's largest investment banks, reviewing and signing off on data-intensive presentations and proposals. Functioning in this capacity required mastery and utilization of elementary Math skills, which are critical building blocks of a financial industry career, including the place value system, whole number operations, fractions, decimals and problem solving (including word problems). Moreover, because there was a strong marketing component to documents I reviewed, I have honed my public speaking abilities and become an expert in English and subjects related to the language.

During my career, it was also my responsibility to work with interns, Analysts and Associates in the capacity of a teacher to ensure that they acquired the technical skill set necessary for success in banking. Additionally, I have worked intensively with my third-grade child, who has been diagnosed with autism, in building a foundation and making significant breakthroughs in elementary Math and English. As such, I have acquired the patience and adaptability in teaching style necessary to assist a broad range of students in achieving diverse educational goals.

Finally, with respect to direct tutoring experience, I have worked with elementary and high school students through a Church-sponsored instructional program to provide the following services:

· 5 years of experience tutoring 3rd – 8th grade students in Elementary Math

· 4 years of experience tutoring 1st – 3rd grade students in Phonics and Spelling

· 7 years of experience tutoring 9th and 10th grade students in Latin I & II

· 7 years of experience tutoring 10th – 12th grade students in Proofreading and Essay Composition

What inspires me the most about tutoring is the unique and rewarding opportunity to transform an intimidating subject into one that a student has fully mastered and wants to learn more about. My teaching style builds upon what a student knows (rather than what a student does not) and an attitude of positivity and encouragement to address weaknesses. In tacking challenging areas, I strive to establish a connection between classroom lessons and everyday life, fostering an exciting and engaging dialogue and emphasizing development of a foundational skill set that makes learning easier.
