About
Hi, my name is Haneefah. When I graduated from high school I was accepted into Florida International University. There, I decided to major in Biology. While as an undergraduate, for one academic year, I volunteered as a tutor at a local middle school. I tutored students in math: general math, pre-algebra and algebra I. I was granted a degree of a Bachelor of Science in Biology. After graduation I worked at Gear-Up Edison, for one academic year. I was a tutor in a high school, tutoring students in the reading portion of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT).
I went on to pursue nursing. I attended Miami Dade College and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). I worked as a school nurse for seven years. I love learning and during that time I enrolled at FIU and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. I then attended Miami Dade College and entered into their Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) program. I completed the program and became certified as a Professional teacher in kindergarten to 6th grades.
My technique for tutoring is to explain in a clear and understandable manner so students can grasp the material. For example, when I tutored students in the reading FCAT I used real-life examples to help them relate to the topics found in the reading. As a result of my tutoring style over 80% of my students passed.
When I tutored in math, I explained to my students the big-picture concepts of math problems; this way they could understand what the question was asking for and know how to approach it. I would solve an example math question step by step, showing them the correct process of solving, so they could replicate it themselves. I always gave enough math exercises so the students could practice and improve their math skills. The students were then able to solve the math problems with confidence.
