Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I set up a test which will let me know which sections or parts of the subject they are struggling with. Once that is completed, I set up up a customised package with past papers, notes and exercises.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am not a formal educator I, however, am a BSc: Biochem student.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I generally charge $45/lesson for online tutoring and $85/lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
I was in my junior year of high and the Mathematics we were doing became boring for me, I started reading ahead and whenever I saw a group of seniors struggling I'd explain the topic/concept to them. From then on everyone at school would ask if I was free to tutor them.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with varsity students (1st year and second year), I have also worked with learners from grade 6 through 12.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my students scored 82% in his final Mathematics paper. I had never been this proud before. He struggled in the beginning with an average of 37% and we put all the work in to get an A.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a tutor who is passionate about the subject. A passionate teacher usually makes the subject is enjoyable.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
When a student is to ask a question they need to about whether they have used their resources to try and understand the section.
