About

I focus on the student's unique learning style and find ways to foster understanding building upon what the student already understands. In helping the student build confidence, I modify the difficulty of the work to make it doable and yet be slightly above the current mastery level to challenge the student. A tutoring session is more than a drill or question and response session, it's a dialogue between the student and me, aiming at creating a deeper understanding of the patterns and high level concepts that will not only help the student meet the current academic goals but help them become aware of how they learn best.

I have worked with Dooney for years on everything from Algebra, Algebra II, Trig and Analysis of Functions. He is a great teacher that explains things thoroughly and as a result I have gotten As in these classes. I would highly recommend him.

Our daughter Isabella has been working with Dooney for almost 3 years. She was very frustrated and lacking confidence in math. Since she started working with him, she got into the best private high school in Illinois. Her confidence is so high that she helped another students that struggle in class. At this moment Dooney is helping her with the SAT so that she can get accepted into an ivy league college.
We can’t thank Dooney enough to help to help our daughter with her struggles and guide her through her academic journey. We couldn’t have done it without him.

Frequently asked questions

I like to talk to the student about their own perception of their math performance and what they think they struggle with.  Then we look at the material the student needs help with and ask the student to show me what they know and work  some sample problems to then determine what prior knowledge needs to addressed to fill in any gaps in their learning.
