Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get to know the student and converse a bit about non-academic related questions whether we're meeting online or face to face for the first time. Then we dive into the material!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Mathematics Education. I have been teaching and tutoring high school mathematics from Pre-algebra through Calculus for 30 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $70/hour. I have discounts for two or more sessions per week.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked by my college professor to tutor in the math department's tutoring room. Later, I started teaching high school right out of college as education was my minor along with a major in mathematics.
What types of students have you worked with?
The majority of my students are high school students, although I work with some college and middle school students as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher has at a lot of years experience teaching math and has tutored online. It actually takes some skill and practice to be good and effective at online tutoring! The more years practice, the better. We get better at explaining topics clearly and concisely as the years go by!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask their prospective tutor if they have experience tutoring. If they want online help, they should ask if the tutor has ever tutored online. Experience in math and online tutoring really makes a difference!
