About
I am an online tutoring expert, having designed and run a website to help teachers tutor students online as far back as 2011. (I'm not new to this :o) ) I also have 29 years of face-to-face math teaching and tutoring experience, with a bachelors degree in mathematics and a masters degree in mathematics education. This, as well as my clear and concise teaching that makes the math as simple as possible, makes my tutoring service stand out.
I love helping kids understand what they did not get in class and improve their grades. I love helping kids get that "ahaa!" moment. I love to explain things clearly and in a way that makes kids think the math is not so hard after all, and I also enjoy the technology portion of virtual tutoring.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I get to know the student and converse a bit about non-academic related questions whether we're meeting online or face to face for the first time. Then we dive into the material!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I created and administered an online tutoring website where other teachers could meet with their students to tutor. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a Master's degree in Mathematics Education. I have been teaching and tutoring high school mathematics from Pre-algebra through Calculus for 26 years. Although English is my first language, I can also tutor math in Spanish if necessary.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
If I tutor online, I charge $40-$60 depending on the course/material. If I tutor face to face, I charge $40-$70 hour depending on the distance I need to travel and the subject matter.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked by my college professor to tutor in the math department's tutoring room. Later, I started teaching high school right out of college as education was my minor along with a major in mathematics.
What types of students have you worked with?
The majority of my students are high school students, (which I meet both virtually and face to face), although I work with some middle school students as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I like to go dancing with my wife on the weekends!
:o)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher has at a lot of years experience teaching math and has tutored online. It actually takes some skill and practice to be good and effective at it! The more years practice, the better. We get better at explaining topics clearly and concisely, whether online or in person as the years go by!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should ask their prospective tutor if they have experience tutoring. If they want online help, they should ask if the tutor has ever tutored online. Students should also ask if the teachers are familiar with the material they need help with. Experience really makes a difference!
