What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, the most important aspect is building a rapport. At this point the student has possibly struggled in different areas so it is important to instill confidence before any tutoring can begin, which is vital to their success. On the other hand, before lessons and sessions are scheduled, I usually meet with parent(s) or both parent(s) and child to work on building their individualize plan of action. Both would then create a detailed description of the student’s current situation and their desired results. We would then come up with a set of goals and how to implement the plan appropriately to accomplish those results.
