Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask them to have a notebook just for our lessons, to not mix it with any other material. I will have them create a "Formula Sheet" where we will add all formulas, tricks, short cuts that will be very helpful to organize their studies. If they want to talk to me to share their expectations before the first lesson, I will be glad to talk.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Thousands of hours of experience, teaching students since 2006. All types of students and since everyone has a different pace and learning style, it is very important that these student work with someone that besides being patient also have the skills required to translate a complex concept into something much simpler.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate covers not only a very good tutoring session itself, but also my students will have access to all the notes from our lesson. These notes will be very organized and well-written and they will be sent to their email at the end of the session. I'm available for my students 24/7. They can call me with questions, problems they got stuck on, etc, with no additional cost. If they call me and I do not answer, it is probably because I am in the middle of a session and will text them as soon as I'm done. I guide them with instructions via audio/text/call. Your success/your kids' is my success. so it's extremely important for me that you are satisfied with the results. This is not only my full-time job, but also it is my passion.
How did you get started teaching?
I was born and raised in Brazil, where I witnessed how my mother successfully changed the life of many students as a Biology teacher. As a child, I went through the struggle of understanding math. I stereotyped math as an impossible subject; a mistake made by most of us. Fortunately, later in my teenage years, I discovered the magic of math. Since then, I take pride on sharing my methods and skills changing the lives of many students, just like my mother did. I graduated with an Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a Master's degree in business. I am fortunate enough that God gave me the opportunity to share my passion and make a way of living. Tutoring math is not a hobby or a part-time job, it is my profession.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, from Elementary School all the way to Multivariable Calculus in College. Also, I have experience with special education and students with learning disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This Calculus 2 student was completely lost on his project. He had just a couple days to turn it in. He called me on the last minute hoping to have some help understanding what it was about. In two sessions, not only he was able to complete his project, but also it made his grade skyrocketed. I was very happy with how grateful he was.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be careful with low rates. You might want to make sure you are working with someone experienced and especially knowledgeable. Besides that, look for a person that will not leave you in the middle of the learning process. Some professionals do tutoring as a temporary job until they find something permanent.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is the tutor willing to work only when needed or does it need to be on a regular basis? What does the tutor's rate cover? What is the tutor's teaching style and tools?
