Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to get to know the student/parent to know their goals and what the expectations are, so I can provide the most effective service to meet the need.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My current educational path is in the sciences, and I am a former AP, dual enrollment, and honors student.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching with my friends in high school, providing explanations and aid when asked. This only furthered with my sister, which gave me much-needed experience helping someone with elementary and middle school work. I learned how to understand the learning habits of a student and teach them in a manner that best suits them for long term success.
What types of students have you worked with?
Elementary and middle school-aged kids and AP, Honors, Dual Enrollment, and college-bound high school students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
As a part of my sister's summer learning curriculum, we have started on Algebra 1 in order to get her ready for her freshman year. She was having issues with slope formulas and taking my understanding of how she learned I broke it down and showed her how it is not really something new, but something she already knew how to do. This was a sort of lightbulb moment in her head and she has been doing much better with it.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone that works and understands how you learn and your goals. You also need someone that will understand your weaknesses and help you boost them into strengths.
