Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The process I follow to work with a new student goes through several phases:
1- Provide SAT math exam to student to assess strengths and weaknesses.
2- Create a plan specific to students need.
3- Begin tutoring lessons by first reviewing math concepts needed to excel in the SAT math questions (typically less than 6 weeks, depends on students strengths in math)
4- Begin tutoring lessons targetted specifically to the SAT math problems students need to prepare for the exam. (6 weeks on average)
5- Provide another SAT exam to students to measure progress and determine further weaknesses needed to be addressed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration. I have worked as a tutor for Universities and Colleges and for the past 7 years I have worked independently as a tutor for the SAT (math portion)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I offer one-on-one tutoring for the SAT (math portion) and my rate is $60/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I started helping students with their math course back when I was in the university obtaining my Bachelors. I used to help peers and then I got offered a job in the university. I fell in love with it and continue doing it as part time.
What types of students have you worked with?
The students I have worked with range from middle school all the way up to college level. Although at this moment, I am only specializing in preparing students for the SAT and they are usually in 11th and 12th grade.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently tutor a student for 3 month to increase her SAT math score. The student wanted to obtain a perfect score on the SAT but she was only scoring 500 on the math section. After only 3 months of meeting once a week, she retook the exam and scored a 690 in the math section! Although is not the perfect score she wanted, it is still an amazing jump. We continue our sessions together and each week we are improving and working towards achieving a perfect score.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
My advice would be to plan to have tutoring lessons for about 3 months since that is the average amount of time a students needs to prepare for the SAT (math portion). Also, students need to be aware that all supplemental material given by tutor needs to be completed as "homework" to achieve maximum score in the SAT.
