Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will typically assist the student with current classroom material, but i will also preview the next lesson with the student so that he or she will be at ease when the new lesson is introduced in the classroom
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors Degree from Florida International University from the School of Engineering in addition to extensive experience in teaching and tutoring all levels of math.
I also have a Math Instruction Certification from the FLorida Department of Education, k-12
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard rate quoted is per the hour, but i often go over at no cost to you.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching 18 years ago as a part-time job because i had so many math credits from my Bachelors Degree.
I took the Florida Subject area for mathematics one day for pre-k to 12th grade mathematics and passed it effortlessly.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with home-school students, ESOL students, special education students and emotionally handicapped students.
I am bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish and super-dedicated to all of my students' needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am especially fond of my ability to quickly have shifted from one-to one personal instruction to online, Zoom or Facetime tutoring in order to accomodate my students during this COVID-19 pandemic.
During the first 2 weeks of the pandemic, i did not charge one penny to any of my regular parents.... it was my way of helpin the children and the parents during a trying time.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Honestly, i would advice parents to meet the tutor first for an initial meeting and also to listen for foreign accent and language...........in Miami, we have so many different peoples that sometimes language can be a barrier.
You have to find experience in the math topics being taught, but also find a tutor that can speak the language clearly and well. How else do we teach if it is not through efficient use of language?
Look for professionalism!
and lastly, how does this tutor treat your child?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students need to be clear about their doubts and also about their math fears.
