About

I love working with students of all ages and seeing the progress as they learn and grasp the material. I hope to teach my students more than just the material but instead to also teach my students skills that will benefit them in all aspects of their life.

I have worked as a peer educator for a year semesters helping freshman university students learn time management and study skills. I have assisted in teaching courses in Latin American history and politics as a graduate teaching assistant for a year where I assisted in grading and leading class discussions after which I taught freshman ENC 1101 and ENC 1102 English courses as a graduate teaching instructor for three years. In ENC 1101 and ENC 1102 I taught students to write research paper, to read and write critically, and to explore various kinds of writing including narratives, short stories, and blogs. I have also tutored working professionals in English writing and conversation for a little over a year.

I have bachelors degree with honors from Florida Atlantic University in Political Science with a concentration in Global Governance. I have a Masters in Transit degree from Florida International University in International Studies and am working on my Ph.D. in International Relations with a dissertation focusing on Cuban-Russian Relations.

I am a member of Omicron Delta Kappa the Leadership Honor Society, Sigma Delta Tau, the English Honor Society, and Pi Sigma Alpha the Political Science Honor Society.

I have presented papers in international conferences in Miami, Canada, Serbia, Rhode Island, and Indiana. In my free time I enjoy cooking, traveling, and hanging with my dog, Abel!

Frequently asked questions

I sit with the student and go over their goals, their strengths and weakness, and the material. I then work with the student to identify what their preferred learning style is wether visual, auditory, linguistic, kinesthetic, mathematic, interpersonal, or interpersonal. Once identified I tailor lesson plans based on their preferred learning style and their goals.

I have worked as a peer educator for a year teaching study skills and time management. I have also worked as a graduate teaching instructor teaching writing and english as well as international relations. I have taken advanced graduate coursework in pedagogical techniques and am certified for global learning courses at my university.

My pricing depends on the level and the matierial but typically I charge bewteen $20-$30 for the first hour and $10-$20 for each addtional hour.

I like to get started teaching by sharing a victory and challenge relating to school since the last tutoring session. I find that this allows for us to break the ice while also allowing me to see how the student has been doing in the coursework since our last tutoring session.

I have worked with high school, college and professional students. I have also worked with elementary and middle school students as babysitter assisting them with their homework after school.

I was working with a professional student and one day at the end of our tutoring session he asked me if I had some time to have dinner with him and dis family.  I gladly accepted and at the end of dinner he pulled me aside and told me how much more confident he was in his professional and personal life because of my tutoring in english and writing. He told me how he had always been uncomfortable talking in groups and even to close friends afraid he would say something grammatically incorrect and now he feels so much more confident that he improved his self-esteem. I told him that is the greatest praise I had ever received.

I would tell the student to find a teacher who is qualified in my areas of expertise but also to find a teacher who is passionate and whose teaching style fits with theirs. I would say not to be afraid to try a teacher out for a session and if doesn't seem like a good fit to politely tell the teacher.

Students should think about what their goals are for the sessions, what kind of learning style do you learn best with, and what environment (coffee shop, library, home, park, etc.) they learn best in.
