My typical process for working with a new student involves several key steps to ensure that I understand their needs and can tailor my tutoring to help them succeed: 1. Initial Assessment: I start by conducting a placement test or assessment to understand the student's current level of understanding and identify any areas of weakness or gaps in their knowledge. 2. Consultation with School: In the first scheduled session, I ask the student to bring their math teacher's name and email address. I then contact the teacher to find out what concepts the student is learning in school. This helps me align my tutoring with the student's classroom learning and ensure they don't fall behind. 3. Goal Setting: I work with the student and their parents to set specific, achievable goals for their tutoring sessions. This helps us stay focused and track progress over time. 4. Tailored Lesson Plans: Based on the assessment and consultation with the school, I create a personalized lesson plan that targets the student's areas of weakness and builds on their strengths. 5. Focused Sessions: During tutoring sessions, I focus on helping the student with their school work to ensure they stay on track with their classroom learning. I also dedicate time to work on basic skills and fill any gaps in their understanding. 6. Regular Feedback: I provide regular feedback to the student and their parents on their progress and areas for improvement. This helps keep everyone informed and motivated. 7. Adjustments as Needed: I continuously assess the student's progress and adjust my tutoring approach as needed to ensure they are making the most of our sessions. I have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and education, as well as a master’s degree in mathematics. Additionally, I have been a Mathematics Instructor at Delaware Technical Community College since 2007, where I teach a variety of math courses. This experience has given me a deep understanding of math concepts and effective teaching strategies. I also have over 15 years of experience tutoring students of all ages, from kindergarten to college level, as well as preparing students for standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, GRE, and GED math tests. My education and training have equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to help students succeed in math.

I have worked with a wide range of students, from kindergarten to college level. I have tutored students at every grade level in math, helping them build foundational skills, tackle challenging concepts, and prepare for tests and exams. I have also worked with college students, including those at Delaware Technical Community College, teaching a variety of math courses. In addition to working with students of different ages, I have also worked with students with varying levels of ability. Some students come to me struggling with math and lacking confidence in their abilities, while others are high-achieving students looking to excel even further. I have experience working with students with learning disabilities and other special needs, adapting my teaching approach to meet their individual needs.
