Smyrna Teacher Math Tutoring
About
I have been teaching in the Smyrna School District for 8 years as an elementary math teacher. I have a degree in Elementary Education, minor in Middle school science, and a Masters in counseling. I love explaining new and different methods to solve math problems depending on what the student is comfortable with in their learning style. Children all learn differently and I thrive on letting them develop which strategy works best for them. I work closely with a very wide range of learners within my classroom and pride myself on being able to differentiate the content and make it relatable and accessible to the individual student so that they feel in control and learn to have a love of math and learning!
I absolutely love the career path of teaching that I chose to pursue. Children need influential adults within the school that will not only shape who they are as a learner but also leave a lasting impact on them for years to come. Teaching is one of the few careers that has the power to do just that. I love waking up every day knowing that I am making a positive impact on my students along with passing along the knowledge of math that I feel so passionately about. The interactions and relationships I build with my students are everlasting, meaningful, and irreplaceable.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The most important thing is to get to know the student and build a rapport with them first. They need to feel comfortable with me and build a mutual respect if learning is to take place. I then gather what the student is struggling with and work our way through different methods until I find what learning style they’re confortabke with. We work through problems starting basic and getting more rigorous as the time progresses. Real life problems, multiple step problems, and open ended thinking are all incorporated in to the sessions to benefit the student and developing a higher level of thinking.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Undergraduate from University of Delaware in 2011 in Elementary Education and a Minor in Middle School Science
