About

As a tutor, I am not only there to assist with difficult homework and explain concepts, but I also act as a guide for strengthening one's own skills. I believe in the power of positive praise and goal setting and use these two tools as the main principle in all my sessions.

As a Political Science Major and African American Studies minor (who has written over 200 pages of research and analysis papers) and a creative writer/poet, I have the ability to use my formal writing skills and creative ones to tutor a multitude of different types of writing assignments.

Further, I am also thoroughly familiar with multiple traditions of philosophical thought present in fields such as Sociology, Political Science, Black/African-American Studies, and Women/Gender Studies. Through my interdisciplinary minor that allows me to take courses in a multitude of course categories, I am extremely comfortable with almost all types of humanities class difficulties.

Simply put, I love the lightbulb moment during sessions when a student makes sense of the assignment at hand. I also love to see the progression in my student's writing and comprehension skills over time, because this shows the power of your own abilities.

    Frequently asked questions

I always begin by assessing the students learning needs and skills. I do this by asking questions about what concepts they understand the most and what skills need some polishing or fine-tuning. When I ask these questions, I also ensure an open and honest dialogue between me and the student.

Next, we move on to the assignment at hand. If there is an essay the student is unsure of how to write or if there is a homework assignment that is causing some difficulty, I always encourage a "try-first" environment. This means I allow the student to attempt writing the essay or doing the assignment without my complete input. This also helps me recognize what exactly the student needs from me and what skills they already possess.

Finally, we review and collaborate. This is the part where we both work together to clarify concepts and finalize writing assignments that require edits.

I am currently a 3rd-year Political Science major with a minor in African-American studies at Towson University.

I am also a published poet and freelance writer with various online magazines, publications, and organizations such as Turnaround Inc., The ColorBloq Org, and Reclamation Magazine.

I also have over 3 years of experience working with students ages 3-15 in an educational and childcare environment. As well as over 2 years of experience working as a tutoring assistant for young (and older) adults at Towson University's Writing Center.

    My pricing is as follows:

$15-$20 an hour depending on the subject matter, and age of the student.
