Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am certified to teach through the Association of Christian Schools International and have had experience teaching high school English 10 and American Literature at Riverdale Baptist School. I have also tutored in the area of writing instruction at the collegiate level (Florida A&M University) for 5 years, working with both Undergraduate and Graduate students. These jobs required that I not only create curriculums catered to specific students, but that I also be able to teach writing techniques to a variety of students and conduct workshops on the topics as well.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tutoring services are $25 per hour and include writing instruction, GRE, and SAT concentrations. Students will be taught proper grammatical techniques, critical reading and writing skills, and how to produce excellent essays. They also have the option to receive preparation to score higher on the Reading and Writing portions of the SAT or the Verbal Reasoning and Analytical Writing portions of the GRE.
How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching as a writing tutor at my alma mater, Florida A&M University. I enjoyed working with students and helping them understand and improve their writing processes and skills. From that point on, I decided that I would like to use my skills to help as many people as possible improve their writing and communication skills.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from an array of different learning points and backgrounds in order to help them improve and reach their true potential. These students include those with learning disabilities and those who may be taking developmental or remedial classes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
I would advise anyone that is interested in hiring a tutor to find one that is motivated to pinpoint your particular learning style and encourage you to reach goals that you may have but are not sure that you can acheive. Everyone has the ability to learn the skills necessary for them to succeeed, but you must find a tutor who knows how to understand you and draw out the best in you, so that even when you do not think that you can do something, you will have the support necessary to help you see it through to accomplishment.
