About
I am currently a sophomore in a Bachelors of elementary education program with a 3.9 GPA. My goal is to become a math teacher. I have a passion for math and helping children learn. I enjoy taking different approaches for each individual student since I believe no two students learn the same way. This may include writing out equations and breaking them down step by step, color coding each step, turning equations into a game or puzzle, explaining a complicated equation as a simpler word problem, and so on... I believe your education is the most important foundation to your future, and math will always be necessary. Thank you for your consideration.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process for working with each student is getting to know more about them individually. What are their educational strengths? What are the educational weaknesses? Where do they need improvement? You need to learn each individuals learning style. For example, sometimes you need to see how a student is misunderstanding an equation in order to show how it should be done correctly. They might have just misunderstood how to do the specific equation. Some students like music, I've come up with catchy jingles to the beat of their favorite song to help remember the order of the equation. Some students love art, and we break the problem down into a puzzle or a game, instead of asking what is 3x2 they could for example draw 3 rows with 2 stars in each and count how many stars they drew, 6 stars, and now they have a fun answer! I enjoy a hands on approach bringing objects into learning to count with jelly beans, or marbles, for example. I take the time to find the best individualized approach to each students specific needs to receive the best outcome.

What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with younger students as well as special needs students in elementary, middle, and basic college math.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The best thing a student can do for their own education and personal growth is to be honest about their strengths and weaknesses. They also shouldn't be afraid to ask questions or ask to have something explained in a different way. It is important a student can have that connection with any educator in their lives.
