    Frequently asked questions

We will map out a schedule with tutoring dates and work around the student's busy schedule. Usually, a good study schedule will involve 30-50 hours of preparation, most done by the student on their own. I meet with students weekly to review actual ACT or SAT questions and review specific test strategies

I have been tutoring for 15+ years and have college teaching experience. I'm a member of the American Mathematical Society and the National Council of Teachers of English.

My rate is for standardized testing (ACT / SAT) is $60 per hour and I work in 90-minute sessions. For all high school and college math classes, my rate is $40 per hour

I have taught at Boston College and the University of Mississippi. About 10 years ago I began tutoring students 1-1 for the ACT and SAT exams. In addition, I tutor all middle school and high school math courses.

With virtual tutoring, I have tutored students as far away as California. Most students realize that even though some colleges now call themselves "test optional", many students they accept will continue to submit good standardized-test scores. Within the past three years, I have helped one student achieve a 36 and another a 35 on the ACT.

Just this past spring I had students accepted at Duke, UNC-CH and UVA, all their top choices. That's impressive, especially in this ultra-competitive environment.

Just because someone scored well themselves on the SAT or ACT doesn't mean they can teach you to score well. You have to find someone who can communicate well and teach you the material. Don't be lured by tutors who brag about their own high SAT or ACT scores. They may be smart, but that doesn't mean they can teach or communicate effectively.

Be realistic in your goals, Do you really believe you can achieve a 1500 or 34 on the standardized tests? If so, are you willing to put in the effort to get there? Any tutor can only help so much. A great deal of the preparation will be self-study motivation. Ask for a weekly schedule with daily assignments to keep you focused.

Also, work with someone who specializes in ACT and SAT test preparation. Be wary of someone who says they can tutor 15 different standardized tests and 20 subjects.
