FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I have a discussion about their academic strengths and weaknesses and where they feel they need improvement. I look at student work to see how their reading and writing are coming along and what misconceptions there may be.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Master’s degree in elementary education and a Bachelor’s degree in English. I am in the process of getting my Master’s in English and creative writing as well. I am certified to teach elementary and middle school. I have been teaching 6th grade Language Arts for 3 Years now.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I charge an hourly rate of $70.

How did you get started teaching?

I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a kid. I went to college right after high school. I got my undergraduate degree in English first and then completed 2 years of graduate school to get my Master’s degree and certification. I worked as a substitute teacher in my hometown of Norwalk for a couple years until I started teaching full time. I have been teaching at the same school for 3 years.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with students of all ages. I have given homework help in all subject areas. I help kids with their writing and grammar. I help students who are still learning how to read English practice their phonics and decoding  to make them better readers.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses is the first step to improving. Be patient and confident and you can do anything.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What do I need help with the most? What do I struggle with? What do I do well? How do I like to learn? What are my academic goals?
