About

Mathematics teacher with many years' experience is seeking for tutoring jobs. My goal is to demystify math for those who struggle and help to make it relevant, while inspiring hope and confidence in my students. I have taught all levels of high school math, and am a CollegeBoard certified AP Calculus teacher.

I love math, and find it rewarding and satisfying. I also love teenagers, and love to watch "light bulbs" come on in their heads!

Mrs. Jones is a fantastic teacher. Her ability to explain concepts in a variety of different ways has helped me so much and has allowed me to succeed in my math courses. She is a great teacher for students who are struggling and for those who excel and want to take their math skills to the next level. Her talent for teaching and passion for students are truly a gift.

Carol is a phenomenal tutor; she is an understanding teacher who puts her students needs at the forefront of their learning experience. She meets each pupil wherever they are in their mathematical journey, helping them to engage with material, fully grasp each concept, and build further upon those foundations. Her passion for math is contagious, she really helped inspire me to love the subject and the study throughout my time learning from her. She is very patient, kind and understanding, and she truly loves the job of teaching people and helping them to learn and love the subject of math. Learning with her was fun and exciting, her presentation of new material was always clear, precise, and adaptable for different learning types, and she provided excellent feedback and encouragement to students of all levels throughout the entire learning process. I highly recommend the experience of learning with Carol, she was the most impactful teacher I ever had and I am so thankful that I got the opportunity to learn from her!

    Frequently asked questions

I will begin tutoring sessions the week of August 24th. During our first appointment, we would talk about their background, previous classes, and previous teachers, so that I can get a feel for what kind of a student they are.  Then, at the next session, I would ask them to bring homework if they are struggling with a particular class.  This would help me to know what gaps are in their background, that need to be filled in.  If they are preparing for a standardized test, I have materials that I would use to help them get a broad overview and review, in sessions that would follow.

I have a Master's Degree in Physics, but have taught many subjects.  My favorite is math!  I have taught in five different private schools since 1982, have run a tutoring business for homeschooled students, have done SAT prep sessions for dozens of high school students, and have been employed full-time as a math teacher for the last twelve years in a college-prep private school.

I charge $60/hr, with discounts for those who buy a series of sessions up front.

My father, whom I greatly admired, was a master teacher, and had wonderful relationships with his students, many of whom kept in touch with him in his old age.  I find the connections with high school students to be extremely rewarding and energizing.

Gifted, struggling, and learning disabled;  public, private, and homeschooled; all nationalities and personalities; athletes and geeks!

One of my former students recently wrote to me to say that he was making an A- in PreCalculus in his new school.  This was especially remarkable because when he came into my Algebra 2 class, he was completely demoralized.  Two previous teachers had told him he couldn't do math, but I told him that I didn't believe that, and we would do our best during the year to turn it around.  And he did!

Look for a teacher who loves your age group and is easy to talk to.  Also look for someone who loves math and is very comfortable with many different topics and levels.
