About

I am a tenured, certified mathematics educator with over five years of teaching experience. I have taught full-year Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and AP Statistics courses at Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut, where I am currently a lead teacher for the mathematics department. Outside of Wilbur Cross, I am a fellow for the Yale-New Haven Teacher's Institute, through which I have had the opportunity to publish my own research-based curriculum unit for AP Statistics as it relates to the topic of income inequality (and am in the process of writing another mathematics curriculum unit relating to human-centered design of biotechnology).

My goal as a tutor is to instill my students with the confidence to tackle mathematics problems with accuracy, independence, and procedural/conceptual understanding. I plan to do this by giving students opportunities to practice the skills they learn during tutoring sessions and capitalizing on their personal interests in order to show them real-world applications of mathematical concepts. I consider myself to be a patient tutor who is sensitive to the diverse learning styles of her students and encourages her students to put forth their best effort.

It is incredibly rewarding when students who may have previously had low self-efficacy in mathematics emerge from tutoring sessions or classes feeling confident and successful. I also really enjoy helping students see the connections between mathematical concepts and the real world.

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new student, I like to use the first few minutes of the session to get to know the student.  Specifically, I would like the student to feel comfortable telling me how he or she is performing in school, his or her interests outside of school, his or her academic performance goals, and the specific concepts with which he or she needs assistance.  Then, I try to give the student a short pre-test to get a sense of the concepts with which he or she might need more reinforcement.  This allows us to come up with a plan of action going forward.
