About

Ricker Math Tutoring has a history of customer compliments from successes. I am a very patient person, who cares greatly for each client.

As a certified math teacher in CT, with over 10 years of teaching experience, and two other careers (technology business management and business owner) of experience, I am very qualified.

I enjoy tutoring because I can individualize instruction. I can take the time to learn exactly HOW to instruct each individual.

I have always liked teaching. My successes in the past have always centered around teaching and instruction, both in business and owning my own business.

“Recently, I was observing Mr. Ricker in one of his pre-Algebra classes. One student who is ‘on the spectrum’ was clearly out of sorts and looking to engage Mr. Ricker in a ‘scene.’ Dave never took the bait, managed to divert the student’s attention back to the math lesson and did it without anyone being aware except me. Instead of an incident, the student managed to have a reasonably productive math class.”

“I just spoke with ‘your tutoring student’, and he was almost speechless with excitement about how happy he is to be working with you. You have really motivated him, and as you know, thats most of the battle.”

“Mr. Ricker has a special gift for connecting with students. I’ve observed him over and over again taking students who present as unmotivated, or truly believe they cannot learn a skill, and he turns them around.”

    • “We are a few sessions in and my daughter is very happy with the help she is getting from Dave. Getting started with Dave was a breeze. He is very responsive and accommodated our requests as to place and time for the sessions. It is clear that Dave is excited about teaching and he is very good with kids.

    Frequently asked questions

First, I get to know the parents' and student's expectations, in terms of text materials, grade levels, and time scheduling.

Then, I spend time with the Student to observe their motivation, learning style, determination, focus and area of interest.

Then, I proceed with lessons, attempting to motivate the learning style of the Student.

As a math tutor in Connecicut, I have my CT math teacher certification, an Engineering Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic, and a Masters in Educational Technology.

My undergraduate degree was in Engineering, and have been applying my education and trainings to first, a business career, and then to owning a business (printing and graphics company).

This relates to my being an successful educator because I have relevent experiences and specific math educator knowledge.

I have worked with ages from 3rd grade to middle school and high school, and up to veterans. Some students have been inner city youth, from private and public schools, and foster-care programs.
As my supervisor said: "Regardless of the hats he (David Ricker) has worn in his tenure with OPP, David has proven his excellence in embracing change, as well as creating innovative solutions for any obstacle that surfaced. As noted before, David had little time to become accustomed to the agency as the department dove head-first into a fast-paced site addition. This appeared to not be a problem for David as he approaches the stresses of work with a calm and collected attitude." I approach each new student in the same calm, analytic manner, while embracing any necessary changes in educational/motivational strategies required.
