What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Depends on the student's needs: 1) If they've been struggling for a while, we do an Academic Evaluation and then plan out a curriculum to get the student from where they are to where they need to be. 2) Just need help with a given subject. We can start ASAP. 3) Exam prep such as the SSAT, PSAT, SAT, ACT, HSPT, ASVAB, GRE etc. After an Academic Evaluation, we'll create a plan depending on the student's goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All our teachers have degrees, are certified, tested on related areas and trained. As the only accredited learning center in the region, we have several standards that few in this industry can adhere to.

How did you get started teaching?

Too many stories in our center to answer this one straight away.

What types of students have you worked with?

Kindergarten though college. Every student with special needs to students looking for enrichment to get ahead.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Everyday: -Students that are behind are ahead. -Parents telling us that Huntington was the best decision they've ever made. -SAT/ACT students going to the college of their choice. Some Particular Recent Events: -One student started with us as special needs, but was recently accepted into a gifted program. -One student was pushed through the system and was reading at a second grade level late in his HS career. We worked hard with him until he was at an 11th grade level in reading, then acing the ASVAB to get his choice of placement afterwards.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Be wary of uncredentialed teachers just working out of their basement. It can be hard to validate instructors.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Sincerely, how far back do the issues go? Certainly, we help with traditional tutoring in specific subjects to get a student through the next text, midterm or final. But seldom are more pervasive issues solved overnight.
