Math isn't supposed to be hard. Yet the way math is taught in school makes it seem impossible. I've personally had very stressful experiences learning math at school. But it doesn't have to be that way! In school your class has to go at a set rate to finish the course material, and you have to teach the material in a very general way. But with our 1 on 1 tutoring, we can focus on the areas that you don't understand. We also believe that every student is different, and as for such we create a specialized approach for every student we teach.
About me: My name is Gabe Catalfo, and I am enrolled at Stony Brook University. I'm majoring in applied mathematics and statistics. I scored an 800 on the math section of the SAT, and a 720 on the English section. I’m most interested in teaching these subject areas: Test Prep (SAT or ACT), Basic Math, Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, BC Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, and Statistics.
I really enjoy the "Aha!" moment students have when they finally understand something that they have been struggling with.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First I find what areas they don't understand well. Then we do practice problems in those areas to increase their understanding. I also try to find out what types of problems they enjoy doing. The more interested they are in the problem, the better they will absorb the information.

My standard pricing system is $20 per hour of instruction.
