About

I've been teaching Kindergarten for 2 years, but due to an illness in my family I have taken a leave of absense, however miss teaching so much.

As a teacher, former paraprofessional, and mother of 2, I LOVE helping struggling students achieve what they can, using specialized, differentiated instruction.

I chose to go back to school and receive my Masters recently so I could further my ability to help students. Newly certified, I passed 4 Praxis tests, and the CT Foundations of reading test with high scores, my first time! To do so, I studied the same way I have been trained to teach and tutor.

As a mom of a 6th grader and preschooler, I understand the frustrations parents have with curriculum changes (Common Core!). I also understand how COVID has not made this easier on any of us.

I’m also happy to sit with parents and show them how they can continue to help their child as well. Before I was formally trained, YouTube and homework went hand in hand!

    Frequently asked questions

I enjoy first getting to know my students, their abilities, their likes, dislikes, who they are, to develop a relationship and trust.  Then it helps to figure out, what is their learning style, what may help them, what might irritate a struggling student.

I was a paraprofessional for 4 years, before going back and earning my Masters Degree in education from UB in Bridgeport.  I interned for a year, student taught, then started teaching kindergarten for 2 years.  Due to an illness in my family, I have taken some time off.  Also, having 2 children being remote, has made the task even harder.

Depending on what exactly the help is needed in depends, times, etc.  I do want to be negotiable, as I know right now many are struggling.

I left my previous job in Mental Health Counseling due to wanting to help those who are struggling when they are younger, rather then trying to help them after the their trying times.  Working with many who struggled as youth, I thought I might be able to help more when they are young, so they don't need help later on.

I have worked with students from Pre-K to 6th grade.  I have worked with non-verbal students as a para, students with disabilities.  I interned in a K-6 school (so all grades), was a fixture in the resource room (where I worked with students K-6 on an individual base, or small group), as they were short handed.  I then studentt taught a 1st grade class, before becoming a kindergarten teacher.

I also as said am a mother, to 2 wonderful boys, one struggles with ADHD, so I have built up a lot of patience with those who may need a bit more help in staying focused.

Wow this is a hard question this year!

Probably, getting my 2 vaccines, and bringing my elderly parents to get theirs!

Also, my family and I love swimming, so over the winter, multiple times we have stayed in hotels with pools.

Be honest with me.  What are your fears, what are you struggling with.  Don't ever think someone who truly wants to help will judge you.  This is why I am here.

What am I confused about.  What are my strengths?  How can I use my strengths to help where I struggle (which obviously we'd discuss)? What are my needs?  What do I want to ask my teacher?  What can I tell my teacher what I feel like I need the most help with?

As said previously, I think the most important thing is to connect with students on a level where trust is built, and no judgements will be made.
