Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to my bachelors degree in theoretical mathematics, a masters degree in curriculum and instruction of mathematics, and a masters degree in theoretical mathematics (in progress), I have been tutoring math for over a decade. I have also taught Calculus at the University of Colorado at Boulder through a program that allowed undergraduates to teach once a week alongside graduate students. I was also a high school math teacher for 5 years where I was appointed as the head of the department within 6 weeks of beginning my position.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ranging from pre-algebra to calculus 4 and everything in between. While I specialize in tutoring higher level mathematics, I adore working with all levels!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I regularly tutor my way out of clients and I love it! For many, a large struggle with mathematics is not the material itself, but the fear associated with not being able to learn it. By creating a safe environment for my students to be challenged, it is my goal to help my students cultivate their ability to problem solve to improve their confidence in mathematics so that eventually they feel accomplished enough to be able to tackle mathematics on their own. While it is always bitter sweet when a client moves on, some of my happiest moments are when my students advocate for themselves and feel like they now have the tools to be able to fluently learn mathematics on their own.
