About

With my degree in Communication Studies, I can guarantee that I can support you through your various Communication Studies courses. I have two years of tutoring in subjects such as public speaking, interpersonal communications, intercultural communications, small groups, and some experience in argumentation and debate courses. I am also an avid forensics (or speech and debate) competitor and have not only placed as a finalist at many tournaments but also took first place at Northern Cal. Regional Champs in 2018, and have guided many of my fellow team members in taking home awards in the top 8 of many local and regional tournaments. I also am a past Honors and AP English Composition student and have experience in proofreading and editing papers for various college disciplines such as Latin American Studies, Asian American Studies, history classes, and English classes such as Advanced Composition and Literature. I am passionate not just in delivering well-spoken speeches and well-written papers but helping you find topics you are interested in, writing papers, and giving speeches you will be proud of and I can surely help you through whatever issue you are having with your courses!

The thing I enjoy the most about teaching students is when they realize they had the courage all along to do an assignment. Sometimes it feels as though an assignment can't be done, but with a little faith and support, even the most difficult assignments can become doable! I also enjoy seeing when a student finally has a breakthrough with something they are struggling with. I live for that "ah-ha!" moment because it means that I succeeded in explaining something that they didn't originally understand. Often, it's not the issue of having a poor teacher, but just having a different learning style from someone else and it means the world when I can break through the 4th-wall and have a student understand something new or complex to them.

    Frequently asked questions

Typically, we will start off the session with being shown the assignment on hand so I can get a gist of what exactly we will be working on. From there, we will focus on deciding what the student needs assistance with. I enjoy making the tutoring process fun for students. Whether it be brainstorming, research, editing.. I like to make it fun and enjoyable for the both of us!

I have two years of tutoring in the Speech/Communication Studies discipline, and further have also done some light coaching for Forensics (speech and debate), so I am aware of what will make your writing and speeches stand out!

$20 per hour, with a 1.5 hour minimum session.

I started teaching/tutoring when I realized that I could use my knowledge in my discipline to help other struggling students on campus. I knew I was considering teaching as a profession after undergrad and I wanted to make sure that it was something I could see myself doing, and I can! I love seeing that lightbulb go off for students when they understand something they didn't previously and when they come back to tell me how they've succeeded so much more since our last session!

I have worked with mostly college-level students, though the age level varies. Most of my students have been between the ages of 17-65 years old, but I am also comfortable with working with younger students between 14-17 years old as well.

An event I am specifically fond of was watching my new speech and debate team recruits growing as speakers. When I first walked into class, everyone was very timid and quite unsure of what they were doing, but by the end of the Spring season, they were flourishing as speakers. It was especially exciting to get to see four of the students I worked closely with throughout this season take on places within the top 3 at various regional competitions! I'm so proud of the work we'd done together!

Find someone who matches well with your personality as well as the information you need. Often times, your teacher will not just be your teacher, but eventually someone who you may form a friendship with. So, while first and foremost the experience and knowledge is important, it's also important to find someone you get along well with. Most, if not all students I have taught have later gone on to become my friends as well, and I take pride in the fact that I can not only be of help when it comes to assignments but as well as personable enough to become friends as well!

Try to be as exact as possible with your needs. It's very easy to just say, "I need help," but knowing what exactly you need will make your tutoring experience that much easier because then we can pinpoint specific things to look at, such as research tips or proofreading. Also take into consideration that as a teacher, we're here to teach and to help! We don't want to just give you the answers but also want you to understand the content as well, so be prepared to do a little bit of brain work as well! :)
