Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Get to know them and their learning style. It is especially important to learn if they're a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner and then tailor the learning experience to that.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology and a Teachers certification fin multiple states. I am a current PhD student. I have many years of experience tutoring math as well as SAT and ACT prep in all subtests.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing can vary based on need, but I offer a flat rate of $60 for an hour, $100 for a two hour session. This may vary based on subject. Rates are competitive based on skill and experience.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring for free back in high school, I tutored students in the remedial math classes. I continued tutoring professionally in college, and I worked for a tutoring company throughout graduate school. I started because I love the subject matter and I love helping others to learn.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with students in a tutoring capacity from age 4 to 20. I've worked with students of varying skill levels, from those with limited skills and interest, to students who went on to ivy league schools. As a Speech Pathologist, I've worked with clients from age 9 months to 94, with varying communicative needs and cognitive disorders
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Not every tutor is right for every student. It is extremely important to shop around and find the tutor who is going to be able to engage your child in learning.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you're interested in, and the ways you feel you learn best. Dont be afraid to get to know your potential tutor to make sure that you will like working with them.
