About

I am an excellent tutor with many, many praiseful comments from tutees. In addition to helping students successfully complete assignments and tests and get good grades in mathematics, I strive to help them understand the underlying concepts . . . enabling then to learn and progress on their own.

I believe mathematics is key to understanding many subject areas and I enjoy helping students becoming able to understand it and to achieve success in their academic and life pursuits.

Additionally, I love math and I enjoy helping others to understand the concepts underlying their assignments.

I am currently taking a statistics class after being out of high school for 25 years and was terrified of this class but Jon has been great and helping me understand the concepts and all the different formulas, he is very patient and doesnt mind explaining things a couple times if I need it.

Mr. Bushnell went far and beyond. He called me later that night to see if I had any additional questions and to make sure I actually understood the assignment.

    Frequently asked questions

I begin by talking with students' about their goals from tutoring -- my goal is to help them achieve their goals -- and about their preferred and most effective methods of learning.

I prefer to structure tutoring sessions around specific questions/topics on homework assignments and tests/quizzes (current, past or future).  By asking leading questions, making suggestions, and showing examples I try to guide students into solving problems on their own and understanding the underlying concepts so that they can do perform better on tests and succeed in doing math in the future.

I am a retired university professor with a PhD in mathermatics. I taught math in high school (after retiring from teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level).

In addition to my doctorate, I have an MS in Manaement Science/Operation Research and have worked in manufacturing, service and government organizations -- usually applying some form of quantatative analysis to management problems.

I have been tutoring for more than 10 years and have helped students from middle school thru PhD candidates master their studies.

My base rate is $40/hr for a 60-min session.  Depending on the needs of the student, and based on his/her age, attention span, and desire, I am willing to do longer sessions at a reduce hourly rate.

I taught and turored students ranging in age from 11 to 70+ years old; from diverse race, ethnicity and gender backgrounds; studying subjects ranging from liberal arts to STEM; and with a variety of abilities and disabilities.

Consider the tutor's eduction, training and experience -- experience teaching, experience tutoring students like yourself, and experience applying mathematics in non-academic settings such as business, financial analysis, and areas of career interest. Think about what your goals are (better grades? understanding underlying concepts? ability to apply math?) and consider how you learn best and whether a specific tutor can teach you that way.
What are my needs and goals for this tutoring experience? How do I learn best and what teaching methods work best with me? Can the tutor help me that way?
