Miss Katie Brisse Language Arts Tutor
About
The best part about being a teacher is connecting with students! I love to share my love of reading and writing with everyone, even those that don't like Language Arts class. I have a BA in Secondary Education with a focus on English Language Arts from Colorado Mesa University. I have been teaching professionally for 3 years in the Littleton, CO area. Before my time teaching, I was a summer camp director for 5 years. I always take a relationship-first aproach to teaching. I think students learn best when they connect with their teacher and feel they have choice in what they are learning. With me, you will improve your Language Arts skills and have fun at the same time.
The thing I enjoy the most about being a teacher is helping students to achieve their goals. I love watching students' faces light up when they finally understand a new topic or idea. I enjoy creating diverse lessons that cater to each specific student to best help them grow and meet their English Language Arts needs.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When first working with a new student, I like to take a little time to get to know them. I like to learn about their interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes, past educational experiences, and what they want out of tutoring. I believe that students learn best when they connect with their teacher, so I want all of my students to feel like I understand them as both a student and a person. I then get more information about what things they need help with and what their goals are for tutoring. After we establish our goals and needs, we will create a tutoring plan to help us meet those goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a BA in Secondary Education with a focus on English Language Arts. I have been teaching in the Littleton, CO area for 3 years. Prior to teaching, I was an educational summer camp director for 5 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are priced per hour and will depend on when and for how long tutoring is needed. I currently charge $30 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I've known I wanted to be a teaching since I was in the 3rd grade. I grew up with multiple, amazing teachers that helped me succeed in my learning and inspired me to want to teach. Once I knew I had this passion, I nurtured it by spending as much time kids as I could. I was a summer camp counselor and director for over 5 years while I was earning my teaching degree.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all academic levels as well as cultural backgrounds.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am fond of is adopting my deaf dog, Cool Whip. She is incredibly smart and loving. I am enjoying training her and working with her. She is a sweethart, and I'm so glad she's in my life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advice I would give a student looking to hire an English Language Arts teacher is to find someone they connect with. I believe students learn best when they enjoy their teacher and know their teacher enjoys them, too.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Questions students should think about before talking to a teacher about their needs is what specifically they need help with. Knowing what they need help with better allows the teacher to assist them which, in turn, will make for better academic and personal growth. Students should also think about how they learned best in the past or what things worked best before. This will help teachers create lessons and provide strategies that will help long-term.
