Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to look at recently graded material or let the student describe what he/she is struggling to understand.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Tutoring since 2001, taught 20+ semesters of college math, B.S. in Math (2006), M.S. in Math (2008), J.D. from Notre Dame Law School (2011), currently 5th year Math Ph.D at CU Boulder.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$40/hr if we meet on the CU Boulder campus, $50/hr anywhere else.
How did you get started teaching?

What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and levels. About 40% have been middle school/high school and half have been college.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I tutor two middle school brothers and their friend and the mothers asked if i would play music with them. I play drums, piano, and guitar, so the four of us had an improv jam session. Unique as far as math lessons goes.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they explain the why, not the how. Tutors get lazy, too, and will give bandaid solutions rather than fix a cracked foundation.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
"Can I explain this to others?" Until you can explain material to fellow students, you don't really understand it.
