Mathnasium
About
Hello. I'm Beth Rand, Center Director of Mathnasium of South Westminster, your neighborhood math-only learning center. We help kids in grades 2 through 12 understand math by teaching the way that makes sense to them.
We teach in person and online.
When math makes sense, kids leap way ahead – whether they started out far behind or already ahead in math. Our formula for teaching kids math, the Mathnasium MethodTM has transformed the way kids learn math for over a decade across 1000+ centers worldwide:
We know how to teach your child math.
Our specially trained math instructors will teach your child how to understand math in an individual setting – our unique approach enables us to effectively explain math concepts and lend a helping hand to every student. Our tutors foster a caring, encouraging environment that helps kids thrive and learn!
We pinpoint your child’s learning needs, meet them where they are, and take them where they need to go.
Mathnasium instructors use our unique assessment process to determine (with great accuracy) exactly what each child knows and what they need to learn. Next, we design a customized learning plan for teaching the concepts the student needs to master. It doesn’t stop there – our encouraging instructors continually check progress along the way to make sure kids truly understand and retain the concepts we’ve taught. The results are transformative – kids will see measurable changes in attitude, confidence, and school progress.
We will help your child overcome homework frustration.
Our instructors will also set aside time to provide homework help. We help kids understand the homework assignment so they feel better prepared to complete the work at home – underscoring their understanding of concepts and transforming homework frustration into a welcome challenge.
I love to see the 'Aha' moment in students when they learn something new. With Mathnasium, we get to experience that every day. We get to be at the forefront of helping our community, one family at a time. Turning a student from one who "hates" math into one who loves it is truly gratifying, and Mathnasium does this in a way no other tutor can do thanks to its incredible method.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
It begins with an comprehensive math skills assessment, based on a conversation with the parent and student, and the student's grade level. In the assessment, we diagnose skill gaps and give the student a chance to demonstrate mastery of math concepts. Using the assessment, we then build a custom, individualized learning plan for each student. Students attend long term, typically six months, first to catch up, and then to get ahead in math.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a teaching certificate with endordsements in K-8 (all subjects) and Middle Level Math and Science. Both I and the instructors working at Mathnasium of South Westminster have had many hours of training in learning the Mathnasium teaching method. Our instructors typically have math, engineering and/or physics backgrounds.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is dependent on grade level and length of enrollment. The Enrollment Fee is $69 and the life time Assesment Fee is $99. After that it is just a monthly rate to attend, like a gym membership.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been teaching kids since I was one. When I was 16 I created a summer program for the neighborhood kids. I've been working in education since 1997.
What types of students have you worked with?
We work with students from 2nd-12th grade. We have advanced kids seeking to skip a grade, students on IEP’s, those with learning disabilities like dyslexia and dyscalculia, and kids at grade level. Because the learning plan is customized for each student, It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and all kinds of students can thrive in math through Mathnasium.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
2020 E-Days at Colorado School of Mines. Because of the 2020 pandemic it was all online and my son, along with the help of his fellow students, created the whole Mines campus in Minecraft!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
A personal fit is as important as an academic fit.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are the pre-requisite skills that I am lacking that are preventing my understanding...what math concepts will be learned in the next 12 months... what is my current feeling about mathematics/my confidence level...? When did I start to struggle (if applicable)?
