About

I specialize in tutoring Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, and standardized test prep. If you are looking for guidance and support as you work to get into your MBA program of choice (and beyond), I am here for you! I love to make the process less stressful for my students!

MBA programs are academically, mentally, and emotionally rigorous. They require students to know, understand, and memorize massive amounts of material in a very short time. I do everything I can to prepare my students for this experience. I work with my students on understanding critical concepts related to the MBA curriculum, and help them build their prerequisite learning experiences around the knowledge they will ultimately need. This includes note-taking, organization, and studying habits, as well as foundational understandings related to finance, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and accounting.

I also work preparing students for their standardized exams. I have years of experience in SAT, SAT Math Level 1 and Level 2, PSAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, GRE Subject Test, and many others!

I routinely make it possible for my students to improve their scores by more than 150 on their SATs and PSATs. Several of my students had been able to achieve the maximum score. I also made it possible for several of my PSAT students to enter the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program.

I focus on the learning experience by individualizing the instruction to match the student's distinct personality and learning style. My goal as a tutor is not just to improve the student's performance, but also to help build their confidence and to foster an enjoyment of the subject matter. This approach generates far-reaching benefits in the future. I select the best teaching materials for each exam, write my own curriculum, and adapt my materials to individual needs.

I believe that when someone seeks a tutor, they are seeking not only knowledge but also comprehensive guidance for their study. I focus my students on how to study as well as providing the knowledge and detail of their subject area. I write most of my own curriculum and adapt my materials to individual needs.

My biggest goal as a tutor is to make my students feel as if the work they must complete is easy. I seek knowledge and understanding of the material, rather than memorization. I work with my students to understand baseline concepts in a simple, efficient manner. I then focus on applying those understandings to more advanced work.

I believe tutoring can be an essential part of a student's education. Any student may excel at any subject given the right tools and guidance. My method of tutoring directly reflects this belief. The ultimate tutoring situation is one in which I can not only provide information to the students but also resources in which they may find their own information and become academically independent.

I earned a Masters degree in Business Research at Columbia Business School. I also earned a Masters in Financial Mathematics at Stanford University. I worked as a Teaching Assistant of Capital Markets, Asset Pricing Theory, Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Economics, Macroeconomics, and Microeconomics. I also earned a Masters in Applied Mathematics from Universidad de Buenos Aires, where I taught Calculus at the college level and was the Teaching Assistant of Operations Research.

I am currently a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 2 candidate. I recently passed the CFA Level 1 on my first sitting with scores above the 90 percentile on Economics, Fixed Income Investments, Portfolio Management, and Quantitative Methods. I am also earning my ASA/FSA certification in Actuarial Science granted by the Society of Actuaries.

This recent review was written by one of my Wyzant.com students:

Absolute Best Tutor...Period

Julia is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. She was able to clearly articulate not only how to assist with my problems, but also point out why I was making certain errors. I will absolutely be working with Julia again for all my MBA questions.

I charge $45 per hour.

My first experience teaching was during high school when around 10 to 15 of my classmates would come home during the week before exams in Math, Physics, ... so that I could help them out. When they learn about this at my high-school the Physics teacher had the odd idea of asking me to teach her class while at school.

I tend to work with students from high school all the way to grad school. I also help prepare professionals in Finance and Actuarial Science certifications (CFA Level 1 and ASA/FSA Actuarial Science exams).

During the first session, see whether the teacher wants to you adapt to her/his teaching style or whether your teacher is learning about how you learn best. Don't give up seeking a good fit, it is really worth it long-term.

A good teacher will ask you the right questions regarding your needs, which will be evolving through the course/program.
