About
Hi my name is Claire and I tutor math, anthropology, and general improvement topics! My moto has always been that anyone can learn anything, but not everyone learns the same way. My tutoring has always been structured around the individual student I am working with and determining how they learn best. I started tutoring my first semester of college helping fellow students with math, biology, and chemistry. I have been tutoring for the past 5 years, during which time I have gotten my BA in Anthropology with am currently completing a minor in biochemistry.
The best part about tutoring is watching students feel more confident in themselves as they learn the material and watching them become excited about the subject. Education and learning new things has always been a passion of mine and I love inspiring others to be curious and learn new things as well. I really enjoy taking the subjects my students are passionate about, such as musi, and applying it to the subject they are trying to learn and seeing how the material starts to click for them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With each new student I start by getting to know their interests and passions and learning style. If a student is unsure of their learning style I begin by using multiple different approaches to help them figure out what works best for them and we can narrow that down in future lessons. We then discuss what parts of the subject make sense to them already and what they need help with to best outline how we will proceed. I cater my teaching to their needs and we adjust as needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in Anthropology, with a focus on biological Anthropology, and I am finishing a minor in Biochemistry. Both subjects have required the majority of my college career being in the sciences and taking advanced maths.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I standardly price an hour lesson at $30 for students highschool or above, and $25 for students in grades prior to that.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring in my first college biology class, a classmate was struggling with the material and due to schedual conflicts sometimes missed lectures. We started meeting weekly so that I could walk her through any missed material and aid in her understanding of it.
What types of students have you worked with?
All different ages over the course of my tutoring career.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my favorite experiances tutoring was with a very musical student. Stress of the material was overwhelming this student so I started connecting the material to examples of musical cord progressions and got to see their face light up once the material clicked.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's really important to find a tutor you feel comfortable asking questions with. Many students struggle learning material because they don't feel comfortable asking questions when they don't know something. It's okay not to know! :)
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Definitely think about what method of teaching helps you learn most productively, for example are you a visual learner? an auditory learner? This can help a teacher figure out how to make the material clearer for you. I also always recommend keeping a list of anything that is confusing when you read material or do your homework.
