Marcie's Tutoring
About
I am a high school math educator of 25 years. Over the the years, I have taught only high school level math including AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB and BC, Pre Algebra, Algebra I and II, Trigonometry/Precalculus and Gemoetry. I have also tutored many elementary students. I have great results in my classroom and in tutoring students. My students' test scores are usually some of the highest in my district. I love math and love to meet each person's individual needs.
In my experience every person is different and has different ways of learning and has different levels of confidence. Truly, confidence is the leading cause of needing tutoring. I love to see students gain confidence and then in turn self efficacy in their mathematics learning.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When a person calls, I first ask if they need help with a particular class or just in general. If in general, is it so that the students' knowledge needs some extension or some remediation. Also, I ask what level of mathematics the person last felt most confident about. During the first session, I use this information and then try to lead the student into deeper understanding of the areas of struggle.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences. I have my Masters Degree in Curriculum And Instruction in secondary mathematics. I have been teaching math at the high school level for 25 years. This includes every course offered at the high school level except Discrete Math. I have also tutored about a dozen elementary aged students over the last 25 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge 25 to 40 dollars per hour depending on how much need a person has. It is also dependent on the level of planning I must do to be ready for our tutoring sessions.
How did you get started teaching?
I went to Outdoor Lab in Jeffco Public Schools as a high school counselor years ago. I found my talent during this experience. I was better than the other counselors at organizing and motivating the students to get something done. The students liked me and flocked to me. I loved them and they loved me.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with high school aged students and some primary level elementary students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Last spring my AP Calculus BC students scored on average a 4.2/5.0 on their AP Exams. This was the highest average score in my school district and the highest score ever in my high school for all content. I was extremely proud of my students and what they accomplished.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?

What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
Do they want help in a specific course which means help with homework, with studying for exams, etc?
