About
I have over 15 years of tutoring experience. I've been focused on working with middle school to college level students in Mathematics.
I love working with students one-on-one.
I frequently get a student that hates math. After tutoring, math becomes one of their favorite subjects.
Another one of my favorite feelings is when a student texts me after taking a test or when they get their test score showing me their awesome grade!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Math is usually taught in a way where the teacher is talking at the student. The student may or may not be engaged. It is essential for learning to have the student engaged in the learning. When I tutor a student, we spend time not only working problems on paper but talking about the problems aloud. I'm constantly asking questions like, "Why do you think it is that way?" This way the student isn't memorizing but understanding the concepts.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Physics and Mathematics. Many years ago, I worked for Lockheed Martin, NASA, and BMC Software in various engineering/scientific roles. In the last 16 years, I found my love of teaching and have been running my own tutoring business in El Dorado Hills, California for 16 years.
In 2019, I moved to Vacaville California, leaving behind my clientele.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Middle School Math through High School Math: $40 per hour
College Math (Calculus and higher): $50 per hour
How did you get started teaching?
After moving from the San Jose area in 2003, I started doing some substitute teaching. The math department from all of the local high schools wanted to hire me, however, I had small children so I wasn't interested in full time work. The math department heads at Folsom High School convinced me to start my own math tutoring business. The rest is history!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with struggling students and gifted students. Many believe that tutoring is only for the struggling student, however, that isn't always the case. I have had many gifted students that want to have the extra practice so they can be more confident in getting an A.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My most recent event that I am fond of is finding out that two of my former students will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
If you are meeting in person, make sure your tutor doesn't have bad breath. I always bring gum. :)
