Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
After asking the client what they would like tutoring in and where they seem to have issues, I give them a free assessment. This will highlight to me as well as the client where they may have weakenesses and mark their strengths. After pinpointing these things, I tailor our future lessons to focus more on the weaknesses to build a better foundation. After we have reached the end of our tutoring I give another assessment to prove a better understanding and application of the topics.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors in Computer Science and a minor in mathematics. Tutoring professionally now for over 5 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is $30 hour, however I offer discounts for boooking several hours in advance. For instance every block of 3 hours you buy, you gain a free hour!
How did you get started teaching?
I have been tutoring my friends and family since high school, however profressionally started doing it in college when I needed a job. I found it to be very fun and enjoyed working with people to help them understand. I also often learn new things from my students which is a great benefit!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students.
Ranging from 1st grade up to graduate students. My students tend to be in middle school and high school, but occassionally I get college students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I got in contact with a former student who needed help with passing the ASVAB exam. He passed the exam and is now training to be a police officer in his home town. One of the proudest moments I've had.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher is knowledgeable and knows how to communicate to you. There are many intelligent people, but it's more important for themt to communicate with you in a way that you understand and makes you want to work hard!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
You should ask yourself, what do you need?
What do you think are your strengths? Weaknesses?
What style of learning do you like more?
