About
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile! My tutoring service stands out because of the connection I am able to build with my student. Currently, I have a BA in History, a Masters in Education and hold a single subject teaching credential. Although my educational background is in history, I have over 12 years teaching experience in Pre-Algebra and Algebra. I've taught for over 17 years, coached for over 20, and have tutored for nearly 2 years. I have experience primarily with middle school age students but have worked with high school and college level students as well. For the past two years, I have also worked as a driving school instructor teaching teenagers how to be safe drivers.
Teaching has always been my passion brought on by a desire to help others. I believe some of the reasons I excel at teaching is because of my patience, creativity, and sense of humor. The main reason I want to tutor is to be able to provide more for my family which includes my two-year-old who is the joy of my life!
One of the main joys of teaching and coaching is the satisfaction of being able to see the results pay off in the form of understanding or helping my student achieve their goals. Another reason I enjoy teaching is that frankly, I'm really good at what I do.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I think it really depends on the goals. If I have a student that wants to work on improving his or her basic strengths in a subject matter then we can do a number of lessons to achieve that goal. If the goal is to focus on a specific topic and the student has a solid grasp on the basics, then we proceed with the topic. I personally like to jump right into the subject and then asses the client's abilities as we progress through the session. I'm a strong believer in fundamentals and if I feel like we need to go back to some basics then we will.
Of course, I do believe that it is important to build a relationship so that my student feels comfortable and relaxed as we move forward. Just like my instruction in the classroom, my students will get a sense of my patience, humor, and laid back attitude as we progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA in History (several units in mathematics), a Masters in Education, a CA teaching credential with authorization to teach math, and 13 years of experience teaching Pre-Algebra, Basic Algebra, and Algebra I.
I also currently have, a license to teach driving school education, a CrossFit level 1 coaching certificate, a level 1 coaching from the U.S.A. Weightlifting, and over 20 years of experience coaching basketball at the middle school to the high school level.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $50 per/hour. I also offer online tutoring using Google hangout for $40 per/hour. I'm also open to negotiating a long term deal to reduce the cost if we were to meet multiple times during the week.
How did you get started teaching?
I first began as a freshmen girl's basketball coach as I was working through my credential program. Very shortly after I was a substitute teacher for over a year. I received my first long term contract back in 2002.
What types of students have you worked with?
Primarily I teach 7th and 8th-grade students. I've tutored a few elementary school students, several high school level students, and two college level students.
As a teacher, I've worked with students of all levels whether it be language learners, students with autism, students with emotional support, and students with learning disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently we just finished the first semester of school and I was proud that out of my 130 plus 8th-grade students, none failed my class!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The educational experience is obviously important, but I think personality and an ability to connect with students is equally important!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
After going over the resume, the student should specifically ask about the topic he or she needs help and ask how comfortable the tutor feels about teaching that topic.
