About
I have been an English tutor for nearly a decade, and have worked with children in an educational setting for longer than that. I have worked with students of all ages on everything from essay composition to reading comprehension. I have my BA in English Language and Literature and my MA in English: Creative Writing and currently work in marketing.
Learning isn't a one size fits all. That's why my tutoring approach takes into account the personality of the child--their learning style, interests--while focusing on improving their self confidence (as that is so often what affects their learning).
Oftentimes, guiding children into a positive learning environment can be as simple as moving their homework from the kitchen table to the desk, or just building up their self esteem so that they feel capable of getting through the tough stuff.
If you need a tutor, I can help. Reach out here, or view my profile on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/shayleene-macreynolds/
It gives me the opportunity to help students. I am so passionate about language--about literature and words and writing. I think so many students don't get the opportunity to experience that passion, but I love giving that to them. Every child should enjoy reading, or know how to craft a story. Giving them that enjoyment is a great gift.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start with a conversation. What are their interests? Sports? Games? This helps me narrow down how to reach them and get them interested. Then I start to process where we are--what is their reading level? Writing level? What is their learning style? Are they visual? Auditory? All of this is so integral to using our time effectively. Building a trusting and listening relationship with students is certainly the only way to keep them grounded while tutoring (which can often be stressful).
