This depends on the student's age.  If the student is very young (such as kindergarten through third grade), I would ask to be in contact with their classroom teacher to get information on their strengths and needs.  With any age I would also offer to collaborate with their teacher.  With older students, I will ask them what they think they need help with and what their strengths are.  I would go through their personal learning goals and the learning goals in the subject we will work on.  Then we would develop a plan of what we will work on together, discuss study skills, and discuss what the student can work on indpedently.  Every student in different, so there is no one way that I go about tutoring. I tailor my instruction to the student that I am working with.

I have tutored many students ranging in age from elementary school through university.  I have a B.A. in Spanish, a bilingual multiple subject teaching credential, a single subject Spanish teaching credential, and an M.A. in education.  I attended SF State for my undergraduate degree, and UC Davis for my teaching credential and masters.  I spent 6 years as a classroom teaching in elementary and middle school.

I charge $35 an hour for in person tutoring, and $25 an hour for virtual services.  

My first year of teaching was spent teaching in a vocational school in Santiago, Chile.  I was teaching English as a Second Language to students studying tourism, culinary arts and a variety of other professions.  I loved working with them so much that I decided when I returned to the United States to get my multiple subject teaching credential.

I have worked with students from kindergarten all the way through university.  I have helped young students learn to read, I have helped high school students and adults master basic math, and I've helped prospective college students study for the ACT and SAT.
