Jake Shepherd: Tutoring
About
I've taught math at the middle school, high school, and college level, and was employed by the University of Michigan to teach Accounting.
I can teach many subjects: I was a business major with a minor in history, so I know math as well as history/english/writing. I am also a fluent spanish speaker.

How did you get started teaching?
While playing sports in high school, I began tutoring teammates who were having trouble maintaining the minimum GPA to play. At the end of the season, a few of my teammates's parents asked if I would keep tutoring their kids in the off-season. I grew from helping out with a few subjects that I was good at, to helping with SAT prep and college essays. While attending college, I was recommended by one of my professors to be a tutor for Michigan's academic success program - which provides resources including textbooks and tutoring to students. Having recently graduated, I'd like to continue helping and working with students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I work with students who want to learn. Obviously, being tutored, or working on school work in general, isn't the most fun thing to be doing, but it's something that we all have to get done. I work with my students to understand their goals and to make sure that every moment spent is a moment spent making progress towards those goals.
