About
I am a highly professional and results-driven teacher with experience in the development and delivery of language programs to a wide variety of clients encompassing diverse backgrounds, beginners to advanced, from students and migrants to business professionals. Moreover, I volunteered for LAVC back in 2008-9 at the Learning Center teaching Spanish to non-Spanish speakers and students with disabilities. As a highly compassionate and approachable teaching professional, with over 10 years of hands-on teaching experience, I am confident in my ability to become a valuable member of your teaching staff. My qualifications include two M.A. degrees, one in Linguistics from CSUN and another in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication from Saint-Petersburg State University. Currently, I am in the program for TESL/TESOL certificate at CSUN. My professional experience includes two years as an English teacher in Armenia and Russia and almost three years as an ESL instructor here in the US. Research and formal education in intercultural communication and negotiations gave an amazing opportunity to explore the diversity of the world and apply the gained knowledge as an ESL teacher. As an instructor at Kaplan Westwood, I oversaw a period where the school achieved the best student review rates in the area and was commended for my performance. This role demanded the regular creation of learning materials, the teaching of lessons, workshops and intensive courses, the preparation of progress reports. One of the effective ways I assist ESL students is by developing and presenting comprehensible and stimulating lesson plans that facilitate leaning and fit all learning styles. I also incorporate variety of resources like audio, visual, and video. My goal is to create classroom that had an honest, communicative, and supportive atmosphere, where each student feels safe, secure, and appropriately challenged. I have experience teaching college-level English as a Second Languages courses, in a college setting for academic purposes with an emphasis on academic writing, as well as teaching multicultural classrooms of adult learners, including “Generation 1.5” learners. I demonstrate understanding of second language learning methods and techniques, especially as they relate to adult learners, and ability to teach all areas of second language learning, which include but are not limited to reading, writing, listening/speaking, grammar, pronunciation and English for specific purposes. I have experience teaching courses involving the use of technology, especially in a second-language classroom setting, assessment of student learning (e.g., Student Learning Outcomes) and department-level planning and program review.
